Dating Know-How: How to Structure Your Date

So you've organised to meet up with a promising individual from Antipodate, and now you're trying to plan out the itinerary for when you meet up. Here are some things you might wish to keep in mind for your first date.

The length of the date: Try to keep the length of your date flexible. By organising an open-ended date, you can cut things short if they're not going well, or you can extend your date if you're getting along well.

What you plan to do: The type of activities you plan for the date will often dictate how the date goes. For example, while watching a movie can be a low-stress first date, it gives you little opportunity to talk to your date so you when you leave the cinema you probably won’t know much about her or her – unless of course, they’ve talked through the entire movie. If they haven’t, you might want to head for the nearest café. Picking something sporty and active can be good fun, but make sure that you let your date know whether they need to dress in a particular way.

The logistics: If possible, organise things so that the activities of your date are easy to get to so you won't waste time travelling between different venues and dealing with delays. For example, if you plan to see a show or a movie, organise a meal at a nearby restaurant rather than across town.

These things may seem like simple common sense, but that’s a virtue that can quickly vanish when first date nerves kick in!
