Dating With a Dose of Culture

If you’re new to the UK and you’ve just started dating here, why not get to know your date and the UK at the same time by choosing a cultural venue for your date? If you’ve already visited the major museums and art galleries, don’t worry, there are plenty of smaller galleries and museums around the country where you can enjoy a dose of culture while you date. Here are some museums and galleries you may have missed:

  • The Museum of Brands, Packaging and Advertising in Notting Hill has a collection of advertising ephemera amassed over 120 years.
  • The Cartoon Museum in Bloomsbury (not far from the British Museum) shows old comics like Beano and Dandy as well as more serious political illustrations from Hogarth’s time onwards.
  • In south London there are displays of old surgical instruments at the Old Operating Theatre Museum.
  • The Horniman Museum in Forest Hill has a collection that embraces African art, taxidermy, and musical instruments from around the world.
  • Whitechapel Gallery, for a taste of the best in contemporary art.
  • Burgh House and Hampstead Museum at Hampstead for a varied collection housed in a handsome mansion in a great setting.
  • The Wallace Collection in central London has a fine collection of paintings, furniture and decorative art objects.

Each of these small galleries or museums is well worth a visit and would be a great place to take a date on a wet Saturday afternoon.
