Getting romantic too soon - a dating faux pas

When you join an online dating site, you may be hoping to find The One very soon. While you’re waiting for Mr or Ms Right to come along, you’ll meet a lot of lovely people that are great to have as friends, but aren’t about to turn into overnight soul mates. It’s important to keep this in mind, maintain a healthy sense of reality, and stay level headed.

How do you know if you’re getting romantic too soon? Here are a few troubling symptoms:

  • You haven’t met yet, but you want to send long emails and unburden your soul to this person.
  • You’ve met for a first date and exchanged phone numbers, and you’re tempted to call or SMS frequently.
  • You’ve dated once or twice and now you’ve cleared your diary for the weekend in case there’s a chance of another date.
  • You’re already imagining your wedding.

Now, if your date seems just as keen as you are, then maybe this relationship is about to go somewhere – congratulations! But if your date seems to be holding back, while you feel an urge to progress the relationship more quickly, it’s time sit back and consider the matter coolly - and to check out how your date is feeling. Open and honest discussion of your expectations is the key to this dilemma.
