Provider Name
Who are we?

The Tourman is a boutique tour operator specialising in short party and festival breaks in the UK & Europe. The Tourman caters mainly to young professional expats living and working in London who wish to see the maxim amount of Europe in the relatively short time they have available.

Why Choose The Tourman?

  • Because we will never make you stay in a leaky tent or second rate hostel far, far away from the action!
  • Because we will never make you sit on a coach for 20 hours!
  • Because we will take you to unique and exciting places that other tour operators simply will not!
  • Because we know the difference between being a backpacker and a flashpacker?

At The Tourman we operate based on the following key principles:

  • Personalised Service – We operate in a very competitive market yet our goal is never to become ‘bigger’ than our competitors. Rather we wish to stay small and focus on being ‘better’ than the rest.
  • Value For Money – If you compare our prices to the rest of the market you will see we are at the lower end of the spectrum, without being ‘budget’. We use innovation and technology to maintain this advantage over our competitors and this will only increase in the future.
  • Flexibility – The majority of our customers are young, professionals based in London. Most of them have a fair bit of travel experience (tours and independent) so we feel it is essential we don’t baby-sit you, but rather provide a variety of options and stay very flexible.

So if what we are doing appeals to you please check out this website. You won't be disappointed.

This is, without a doubt, the biggest polo day in the world and one of the true highlights of the English social calendar! Royalty, celebrities and leading players combined with a 25,000 strong crowd make attending this event an experience you'll never forget. Follow the highs and lows of the players as they gallop across the pitch, ride each other off or turn on a sixpence in pursuit of that all important goal.

Proposed Itinerary

Our coach convoy departs Earls Court Station at 9:00 for the 50km drive to the Guards Polo Club, located in the stunning surroundings of Royal Windsor Great Park. During the journey any questions you may have about the running of the day will be answered.

The first match gets underway at 11:00 so be sure to get a good position next to the pitch so you can see all of the action. We will then gather for a group picnic so bring a blanket to sit on and any food or drink you so desire, including alcohol (that’s right, you can bring your own booze). Of course there will also be food stalls and bars to nourish you if the BYO option is simply too hard! The main match starts at 15:15.

In 2008 England narrowly defeated Australia to win the Coronation Cup that was presented to the victors by Prince Charles. There will also be a presentation of the Cartier award for the day's most outstanding player and the Cadenza trophy for the owner of the best playing pony.

At the conclusion of the presentation ceremony we will return to the coach and head back to London.

What's Included

  • Return private coach transport
  • General Admission in Guards Polo Club for the Cartier International Polo Event

Since medieval times cheese rolling has been taking place on Coopers Hill in Brockworth, Gloucestershire. Initially held at midsummer, the event now takes place on Spring Bank Holiday Monday.

Although Coopers Hill is the only surviving example, cheese rolling was not uncommon in other areas until the mid-nineteenth century. The Coopers Hill event was actually banned by the local council for safety reasons in 1998, but the ban was defied by some rebellious early morning cheese rollers and it was officially re-established the following year.

Proposed Itinery

Our private executive coach departs Earls Court Station at 7.30 for the 3 hour drive to Gloucestershire. During the journey any questions you may have about the running of the day will be answered.

The first downhill race starts at midday, with 4 more to follow at 20 minute intervals, including one just for the ladies! At the top of the hill, competitors (minimum of 2 to a maximum of about 20) sit in a line and wait.

The MC will escort a special guest holding a 3.5kg Double Gloucester cheese to the start line. At the command of 'One to be ready, two to be steady, three to prepare!' the special guest releases the cheese, which rolls down the hill at breakneck speed. The M.C. continues, 'and four to be off!' At this point the competitors hurl themselves down the slope after the cheese.

The first person to arrive at the foot of the hill wins the cheese. Those who come second or third receive a small cash prize. The slope is very steep, the surface is very rough and uneven and it is almost impossible to remain on foot during the chase Injuries incurred are usually minor however St John's Ambulances will be on hand to whisk any casualties away to the local hospital.

Between the downhill races there are also uphill races: boys of 12 years and under, girls of 12 years and under, open men’s and open women’s!

Obviously no cheeses are rolled, but a small cheese is the prize for the winner of each race.

After the conclusion of the final race we will return to the coach and head back to London for our post race beer, wine and cheese party. Expected arrival back in London is 18:00.

What's Included

  • Return private coach transport from central London
  • Entry to post race beer, wine and cheese party
  • Services of an experienced tour leader
